ILLUSTRATION
Editorial and Spot Illustrations
Featured are two separate illustration projects. The first is an editorial illustration created for an article published by The New York Times, while the second project explored spot illustrations for a children’s book.

EDITORIAL

This opportunity was a challenge to create a figurative or metaphorical scene of a pre-existing article in a way that conveys the underlying meaning of the story. The article discusses the author's own personal journey and frustrations with being identified as a barista by New York residents due to the amount of time spent working at coffee shops while progressing his writing career. The resulting illustration is a metaphorical interpretation of the title "The Barista's Curse."
SPOT ILLUSTRATIONS

This project presented the task of depicting a significant scene from two separate chapters of a young reader’s book. These spot illustrations represent scenes from the young adult novel Kira-Kira, by Cynthia Kadohata, one in the beginning of the book, and the other towards the end. Both scenes were specifically chosen to represent a point in the story just before a major action or plot point occurred.
